A compact beauty with eye-catching blooms

The Gatsby Gal® hydrangea Shrub is an exquisite addition to any garden, especially for those with limited space. Its unique, compact oakleaf structure not only captivates the eye but also provides a sense of elegance with its full panicles of striking white blooms. These flowers stand proudly above the lush foliage, creating a lovely display that attracts attention and brightens smaller areas, making it a perfect choice for intimate gardens or landscape arrangements.

Beyond its stunning flowers, the foliage of this hydrangea is just as spectacular, changing to rich burgundy-red during fall. As a North American native, it’s well suited to eastern climates, withstanding heat and humidity with ease. Whether used as a focal point or planted alongside other perennials, this remarkable shrub’s aesthetic appeal and practicality make it an ideal companion in any landscape.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a location with well-draining soil and partial to full sunlight for optimal growth. Dig a hole that is twice the width of the root ball and just as deep. Place the shrub in the hole, backfill with soil, and spread a layer of mulch to help soil moisture retention, especially in areas with more sun. Water thoroughly after planting to establish roots. In colder climates, mulch well in late fall to prevent winter damage.

2. Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the first growing season. Once established, water deeply whenever the top few inches of soil feel dry.

3. Pruning: Little pruning is needed and limited to removal or dead or diseased wood. Oakleaf hydrangeas bloom on old wood, so pruning for shaping must be done in summer just after flowering.

4. Fertilizing: Feed with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth begins. This will provide essential nutrients needed for vibrant flowers. Avoid over-fertilizing, which can lead to excessive foliage at the expense of blooms.
