A splash of vibrant golden blooms for your landscape
If you're looking to add a touch of brightness to your yard, this hybrid magnolia is a delightful choice. With its rounded canopy and lush dark green leaves, it creates an inviting presence in gardens and landscapes alike. The standout feature, of course, are the tulip shaped flowers that emerge alongside the foliage in late spring, flaunting a stunning deep yellow hue. This cheerful color mixes beautifully with other spring bloomers like wisteria, azaleas, and spring bulbs.
Yellow Bird magnolia grows best in full to part sun, in organically rich, moist acidic soil. A favorite among gardeners for its elegance and ease, this deciduous type of magnolia makes a beautiful shade tree. Its appealing growth habit and lovely flowers make it a wonderful addition that will not only enhance your garden but also bring joy every spring season.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Remove the stake and ties at planting, as these are only for shipping. Choose a location with full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil for best growth. Dig a hole that is twice as wide as the root ball and slightly deeper. Place the tree in the center, backfill with soil, and water thoroughly. Spread a 3" layer of mulch three feet around the plant, pulling it back a few inches from the base.
2. Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, particularly during the first few years of growth. Water regularly, especially during dry spells, but avoid waterlogging.
3. Pruning: Light pruning can be done in early spring to maintain shape and remove any dead or damaged branches. Avoid heavy pruning as it may reduce flowering.
4. Fertilizing: Fertilize once in early spring with a balanced slow-release fertilizer for acid-loving plants to encourage healthy growth and flower production.
