Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Remove the stake and ties at planting, as these are only for shipping. Choose a location with well-draining soil and at least six hours of sunlight daily, as this tree thrives in bright conditions. Dig a hole that is twice as wide and as deep as the root ball. Place the tree in the hole, backfill with soil, and spread a 3” layer of mulch three feet around the tree. Water thoroughly.
2. Watering: Ensure consistent moisture, especially during dry spells. Water deeply but allow the top inch of soil to dry out between sessions to prevent root rot.
3. Pruning: Prune in late winter to early spring to maintain shape and remove any dead or crowded branches. Regular annual pruning encourages healthy growth and an attractive form.
4. Fertilizing: Feed your Watermelon Sugar™ Tree with a balanced fertilizer in early spring as it begins its growth cycle. Follow up with a second feeding in midsummer to promote vigor and fruit development.
