Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Remove the stake and ties at planting, as these are only for shipping. Choose a site with full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and no deeper, then backfill and water thoroughly.
2. Watering: Water deeply when the top 1 to 2 inches of soil feel dry. Keep the soil evenly moist during the first growing season, but avoid waterlogged conditions. Container-grown plants may need more frequent watering.
3. Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring to remove damaged growth and maintain the tree’s shape. Light trimming during the growing season can help keep the canopy dense and tidy.
4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Follow label directions and avoid overfertilizing, which can encourage weak, overly vigorous growth.
