Elegant flame-shaped silhouette enhances northwestern landscapes

This native selection from Heritage Seedlings stands out for its upright, tree-like form, making it a fantastic addition to your yard. Unlike wild vine maple seedlings that may grow chaotically, this cultivar boasts a charming flame shape, visibly taller than it is wide, with well-structured, tight branch angles. The normal-sized dark green foliage changes to orange, red, and yellow in fall, offering an appealing visual throughout the growing season.

By choosing this variety, you not only elevate your landscape but also simplify maintenance. This predictable growth pattern makes the tree easier to manage than wild seedlings, providing a beautiful, low-maintenance option for your landscape.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Remove the stake and ties at planting, as these are only for shipping. Choose a site with well-draining, acidic soil. Vine maples are understory trees that appreciate shade, though they can be grown in full sun with ample moisture. Dig a hole that is twice as wide and as deep as the root ball. Place the tree in the hole, backfill with soil, and spread a 3” layer of mulch three feet around the tree. Water thoroughly.

2. Watering: Regular watering is essential, especially during the first year. Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry slightly between watering sessions.

3. Pruning: Minimal pruning is needed to maintain its natural shape, but removing any dead or crossed branches will encourage a healthy growth pattern.

4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring to provide nutrients during the growing season. Avoid over-fertilizing, as it can lead to excessive leaf growth.
