Stunning blooms that transform your landscape

The Spring Grove Dogwood has earned its legendary status thanks to its spectacular blooms. Discovered at the renowned Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, this flowering dogwood captivates with its stunning, five-inch-wide pure white bracts that emerge each spring, transforming any yard into a vibrant display of color. Unlike many other varieties that alternate between heavy and light blooms, the Spring Grove is a consistent performer, ensuring your outdoor space remains a breathtaking sight from spring to autumn.

The beauty of the Spring Grove Dogwood doesn't end with its blooms. As fall approaches, its rich red-purple foliage and bright red berries, which are a feast for songbirds, create another wave of color, extending the seasonal interest well into the cooler months. Beyond its striking visual appeal, Spring Grove has shown improvements over native species, including natural resistance to anthracnose and exceptional cold hardiness. Perfect as a focal point in a shady garden bed or planted beneath the canopy of larger trees, this dogwood cultivar truly deserves a prime spot in your landscape.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Remove the stake and ties at planting, as these are only for shipping. Choose a location with partial shade and rich, well-drained soil. In poor soils, amend with compost and organic matter prior to planting. Dig a hole twice as wide as the rootball and as deep. Place the tree in the hole so that the top of the rootball is level with the soil. Backfill with soil, then spread a 3" layer of mulch three feet around the tree, pulling the mulch back a few inches from the trunk. Water deeply after planting.

2. Watering: Dogwoods prefer moist soil and are not drought tolerant. During establishment, water every 2–3 days or whenever the top 2" of soil are dry. After establishment, water deeply during periods of dry weather, aiming for about 1 inch of water per week.

3. Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring, removing dead or crossing branches to encourage healthy growth and maintain shape.

4. Fertilizing: Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer, or amend the soil with compost and organic matter.
