Brilliant red blooms on a compact evergreen
Southern Living® Camellia October Magic® Ruby™ brings brilliant, Christmas-red, fully double blooms to the landscape throughout fall. The flowers stand out against deep olive-green, exceptionally glossy evergreen foliage, providing welcome color as many other plants wind down for the season.
This compact shrub has the dense, semi-dwarf habit of ‘ShiShi Gashira’ but creates a softer appearance in the landscape. Its tidy growth works well in foundation plantings, mixed borders, woodland gardens, or low evergreen hedges.

Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a location with morning sun or filtered shade and protection from harsh afternoon sun. Plant in well-drained, acidic soil with the top of the root ball level with or slightly above the surrounding ground. Add a 2- to 3-inch layer of mulch, keeping it away from the stem.
2. Watering: Water deeply after planting and regularly during the first growing season. Keep the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged. Once established, water during extended dry periods, especially while flower buds are developing.
3. Pruning: Little pruning is needed to maintain its naturally compact form. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches after flowering, and complete any shaping before new flower buds begin forming in summer.
4. Fertilizing: Feed with a fertilizer formulated for camellias or other acid-loving plants after flowering or as new growth begins in spring. Follow label directions and avoid overfertilizing or feeding late in the growing season.
