Bold color through three seasons

Shirazz Japanese Maple brings extraordinary three-season color, with variegated leaves that shift through a lively palette of pink, red, and green. Unlike varieties with subtle white or cream edging, ‘Shirazz’ develops bold neon-pink tones that stand out clearly in the landscape.

Its changing foliage adds long-lasting interest to garden beds, woodland edges, courtyards, or large containers. Plant it where its detailed coloring can be appreciated up close, ideally with protection from intense afternoon sun and drying winds.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Remove the stake and ties at planting, as these are only for shipping. Choose a site with morning sun and afternoon shade, especially in hot climates. Plant in rich, well-drained soil with the root flare at ground level, then mulch without covering the trunk.

2. Watering: Water deeply after planting and regularly during the first growing season. Keep the soil evenly moist but never soggy. Established trees still benefit from supplemental water during hot or dry periods.

3. Pruning: Prune sparingly to preserve the tree’s natural form. Remove dead, damaged, crossing, or unwanted branches in midsummer or while the tree is dormant, avoiding heavy pruning and major cuts during spring sap flow.

4. Fertilizing: Apply a slow-release, balanced fertilizer formulated for trees and shrubs in early spring if growth is weak. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can encourage soft growth and reduce foliage color.
