Bold, shield-shaped foliage for tropical impact
Large, deep green leaves with subtle purple undersides give this plant a dramatic, tropical look. Its upright, clumping habit creates a strong focal point without taking up excessive floor or garden space.
It makes a very nice houseplant or patio plant, especially where its large leaves can be viewed up close. In warm climates, it also adds bold texture to shaded garden beds and sheltered landscape areas. Keep it away from pets and children, as the foliage is toxic if eaten.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a container with drainage holes and use a loose, well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter. Place it in bright, indirect light indoors or partial shade outdoors, protected from strong afternoon sun, wind, and cold temperatures.
2. Watering: Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry. Keep the soil lightly and consistently moist during active growth, but never soggy. Reduce watering in winter when growth slows.
3. Pruning: Remove yellow, damaged, or declining leaves at the base with clean pruners. Regular pruning is otherwise unnecessary.
4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer at half strength about once a month during spring and summer. Reduce or stop fertilizing during fall and winter.
