Vibrant foliage that lasts all summer long
Enhance your garden with the new and improved Kodiak Red 2.0 Honeysuckle Shrub. This standout shrub provides a splash of texture and color, featuring rich burgundy new foliage in summer that transforms to brilliant red in fall. Its compact size makes it a versatile choice for mass plantings, borders, foundation beds, or as a colorful accent in containers.
Recognized as the 2027 Landscape Shrub of the Year, Kodiak Red 2.0 offers more than just beauty. This Proven Winners® selection is a native bush honeysuckle that supports local ecosystems by attracting native bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Tough, adaptable, and tolerant of drought and deer once established, it's an excellent choice for erosion control, naturalized landscapes, and low-maintenance gardens. Whether you're an experienced gardener or just getting started, Kodiak Red 2.0 delivers dependable performance and outstanding seasonal color.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a location with well-drained soil and full to partial sun exposure. Space plants at least two feet apart to allow for natural growth. Dig a hole that's twice the width of the root ball and just as deep. Gently place the shrub in the hole, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil. Backfill with soil, water thoroughly to settle the roots, and apply a layer of mulch around the plant to help conserve moisture and suppress weeds.
2. Watering: Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a deep and extensive root system. Once established, Kodiak Red 2.0 is fairly drought-tolerant but appreciates occasional watering during dry spells.
3. Pruning: Prune in early spring before new growth begins to maintain the plant’s shape and remove any dead or damaged branches. This encourages healthy growth and keeps the shrub looking tidy.
4. Fertilizing: Use a slow-release shrub fertilizer in early spring to promote vibrant foliage and strong growth. Follow package instructions for the amount based on plant size and age.
