A vibrant showcase of double yellow blooms with maroon accents
Imagine a garden bursting with color in mid to late spring, where beautiful, bell-shaped, double yellow flowers gracefully sway amidst their green leaves. This delightful shrub also tantalizes the senses with a light grapefruit fragrance that adds an aromatic touch as you stroll through your yard. Funyella thrives abundantly, continuing its floral display well into midsummer, ensuring that your landscape remains vibrant and inviting throughout the season.
What sets Funyella apart is not just its stunning blossoms but its ease of care. This hardy old wood bloomer is undemanding, making it a fantastic choice for both novice gardeners and those with more experience. It's easy to grow and doesn’t require much maintenance beyond a bit of spring pruning if desired. Its charming, richly hued flowers bring a unique charm to any space, making it a perfect addition to flower beds, borders, or even as a standout specimen in your garden.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Prepare a well-draining area by loosening the soil and mixing in some organic matter. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and deep enough to accommodate the roots without bending or crowding. Place the plant in the hole, ensuring it sits at the same depth as it was in the pot. Backfill with soil and water thoroughly.
2. Watering: Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a strong root system. Once established, Funyella is relatively drought-tolerant but appreciates consistent moisture, especially during dry spells. Be mindful of overwatering, as this can lead to root rot.
3. Pruning: Funyella is a group 1, Atragene clematis. As such, it does not require pruning. If pruning is desired to tidy plant, do so right after flowering to deadhead and remove spindly growth.
4. Fertilizing: Use a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to provide necessary nutrients. Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can lead to a reduction in flower production. Regularly check soil quality and enrich with organic compost as needed.
