Snow-white blooms above glossy evergreen foliage

Elegant, semi-double, snow-white flowers with yellow stamens appear in profusion, creating a crisp display when many other plants are winding down for the season. The blooms stand out beautifully against glossy, dark green leaves. This cultivar was originally named ‘Mine-No-Yuki,’ which translates to “snow on the mountain,” but is also sometimes referred to as ‘White Doves.’

This evergreen shrub brings year-round structure to foundation plantings, woodland borders, and partially shaded beds. Its dense foliage also works well as an informal hedge or garden backdrop, especially in a spot protected from harsh afternoon sun and drying winds. Its slightly cascading form and spreading habit create a naturalized look in woodland areas or Asian-inspired gardens.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a location with morning sun or filtered shade and protection from intense afternoon sun and cold, drying winds. Plant in moist, well-drained, acidic soil with the top of the root ball level with or slightly above the surrounding ground. Mulch lightly, keeping mulch away from the main stems.

2. Watering: Water deeply after planting and regularly during the first growing season. Once established, water when the top few inches of soil begin to dry. Keep the soil evenly moist but never soggy, particularly while buds and flowers are developing.

3. Pruning: Prune only as needed to shape the shrub or remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Prune soon after flowering ends so you do not remove buds for the next bloom cycle.

4. Fertilizing: Feed in spring after flowering with a fertilizer formulated for camellias or other acid-loving plants. Follow label directions and apply to moist soil, avoiding direct contact with the stems. Avoid late-season fertilizing, which can encourage tender new growth before cold weather.
