A stunning golden ground cover with unique form

Bright golden yellow sprays of foliage characterize this sturdy and reliable sport of 'Crippsii', making it a striking addition to any garden. With branches that elegantly spread out in a bird's nest fashion, this shrub forms a lovely ground-covering mound that not only adds visual interest but also provides a vibrant splash of color. Ideal for the foreground of taller garden elements or perfect for covering a large bank, this shrub shines in more ways than one.

Originally found in the Kerdalo garden, established by a Russian refugee in Brittany, France post-WWII, this plant carries with it a story of resilience. Its unique form and eye-catching color make it a wonderful choice for gardeners looking to enhance their landscapes with low-maintenance yet impactful greenery. Whether planted in a cottage garden or a modern landscape design, this shrub will contribute texture and warmth wherever it’s placed.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a spot with well-draining soil and partial to full sun for optimum growth. Hinoki Cypress grows best in moist, well drained soil in full sun, though part shade is tolerable. Avoid poorly drained soils and protect from wind. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and place the shrub in the center. Fill the hole with soil and gently pat down.

2. Watering: Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Once established, this shrub is fairly drought-tolerant, but avoid letting the soil completely dry out during prolonged dry spells.

3. Pruning: Light pruning can be performed in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and promote bushy growth. Remove any dead or damaged branches to encourage healthy new growth.

4. Fertilizing: Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to support healthy foliage production. Avoid over-fertilization, as this can encourage weak growth.
