Rose-pink fall color with an upright form

Large, semi-double rose-pink flowers brighten the garden in fall, when many other shrubs have finished blooming. The evergreen foliage provides year-round structure, while the upright growth habit creates a polished, space-efficient form.

Plant it as a foundation accent, informal screen, hedge, or woodland-edge specimen. It grows well in sun to part shade, though protection from intense afternoon sun is helpful in warmer climates.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a site with sun to part shade and moist, well-drained, acidic soil. Protect from harsh afternoon sun. Set the root ball slightly above the surrounding soil level, as camellias dislike deep planting. Add a 2- to 3-inch layer of mulch while keeping it away from the trunk.

2. Watering: Water deeply after planting and regularly during the first growing season. Keep the soil evenly moist but never soggy. Established plants benefit from supplemental water during dry periods, especially while buds are developing.

3. Pruning: Prune shortly after flowering ends, before new flower buds begin forming. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches and lightly shape the shrub as needed. Avoid heavy pruning unless rejuvenation is necessary.

4. Fertilizing: Apply a fertilizer formulated for camellias or other acid-loving plants in early spring, following package directions. A second light feeding may be applied after the first flush of growth. Avoid fertilizing late in the season, which can encourage tender growth before cold weather.
