Delicious Tropical Flavor in Your Backyard
Why Florida Special Pineapples?
Imagine exotic, island-inspired flavor in your own backyard…with our Florida Special Pineapple Plant, it’s possible and easy. Especially since this pineapple can be planted in the ground or in a container to grow on your patio…or even indoors.
In fact, it’s one of the best tropical plants to grow in a container. Simply place the Florida Special Pineapple in front of a sunny window, water it, and it’s ready to grow. These pineapple plants need minimal care to provide the rich taste of home-grown pineapples. And under optimal conditions, you could get fruit in as few as two years. Plus, because the Florida Special is self-fertile, the entire process is even simpler (though more plants mean more fruit).

Florida Special Pineapple Plants are self-fertile. You will get fruit with only one plant. However, adding an additional Florida Special Pineapple Plant will drastically increase the size of your crop.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: First, choose an area with full sun and well-drained soil for your Florida Special Pineapple. Around 6 to 8 hours of sun per day is appropriate.
To plant your Pineapple, dig a hole deep enough to cover its root ball. After placing your plant, tamp down the soil while backfilling to avoid any air pockets. Water your Pineapple to settle the soil that surrounds the roots. If you’re planting in a container, select one that’s approximately two times the width of the root ball. From there, the planting instructions are the same – and after you’ve planted, place your potted Florida Special Pineapple Plant in front of a sunny window.
2. Watering: Water regularly during the first full growing season. To test when and how much to water, simply check the top 2 to 3 inches of soil – if it’s dry, it’s time to water until it’s moist but not oversaturated.
3. Fertilizing: For in-ground pineapples, use a balanced fertilizer every 8 weeks during the growing season. Apply a foliar micronutrient spray every 8 to 10 weeks.
4. Container Planting: Choose a container that is 2 inches larger in diameter than the nursery pot the plant arrives in, making sure the new container has drainage holes at the bottom. Use a well-draining potting mix for citrus or cactus, amended with perlite, as pineapples are sensitive to overly wet soil. Water the container thoroughly, then let the top 2 inches of soil dry out before watering again. Place plants in a location that receives 6–8 hours of direct sunlight. Fertilize every 4 weeks during the growing season with a balanced houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength. Apply a foliar micronutrient spray every 10 weeks during the growing season.
Bring the plant indoors once temperatures reach the low 50s°F. Place it near a sunny window that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight, or use a full-spectrum LED grow light positioned 12–18 inches from the plant for 12–14 hours daily. Reduce watering and stop fertilizing during winter.
