Early white peaches for mild-winter gardens

This University of Florida release produces early-ripening, white-fleshed peaches with a notable advantage: the flesh resists browning after slicing. It can fruit following very mild winters, making it a practical choice for warm-climate gardens where many traditional peach varieties struggle.

Top-rated resistance to bacterial spot helps support healthy foliage and dependable performance in humid areas. Planted in a sunny location, this compact fruit tree adds attractive spring blossoms, summer shade, and flavorful homegrown fruit to the landscape.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Remove the stake and ties at planting, as these are only for shipping. Choose a site with full sun, good air circulation, and well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and no deeper, keeping the root flare slightly above ground level.

2. Watering: Water deeply after planting and regularly during the first growing season, allowing the soil surface to dry slightly between waterings. Established trees need supplemental water during prolonged dry periods and while fruit is developing. Avoid consistently soggy soil.

3. Pruning: Prune during dormancy to create an open-center shape that allows light and air into the canopy. Remove dead, damaged, crossing, or inward-growing branches. Light thinning after harvest can help control size and encourage productive new growth.

4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced fruit-tree fertilizer in early spring as growth begins, following label rates for the tree’s age and size. A soil test can guide nutrient needs. Avoid heavy nitrogen applications or late-season feeding, which may promote weak growth.
