A striking display of intensely red-pink blooms
Recently released from Rutgers University, this charming tree showcases intensely red-pink flowers that are sure to catch the eye. The bracts overlap in a unique formation, almost resembling a square. These brilliant blooms emerge with a purple hue in early May and deepen in vibrancy as the month unfolds, captivating viewers all the way through late June. This exceptional flowering trait makes it a standout addition to any garden or landscape.
As a smaller growing tree, it fits beautifully into a variety of spaces, making it perfect for backyard oases, front yards, or even commercial landscapes. Its unique colors bring a warm, inviting feel to the surroundings, while its manageable size ensures that it won’t overshadow other plants. With a reputation built on quality from Rutgers University, planting this tree means adding beauty you can trust to your nursery program.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Remove the stake and ties at planting, as these are only for shipping. Choose a spot with well-draining soil and partial to full sun for the best growth. Provide more shade in warm zones. Dig a hole that is twice as wide and as deep as the root ball. Place the tree in the hole, backfill with soil, and spread a 3” layer of mulch three feet around the tree. Water thoroughly.
2. Watering: Water the tree thoroughly after planting to establish its roots, then keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy during its first growing season. Once established, reduce watering frequency to avoid overwatering.
3. Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring to shape the tree and remove any dead or damaged branches. Regularly check the tree for any crossing branches that may need thinning.
4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to encourage healthy growth and vibrant blooms. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the appropriate amounts.
