Southern heat tolerance with generous fruit harvests
Introduced by Mississippi State University, the Dorman Red Raspberry was bred to thrive in the heat, humidity, and long growing seasons of the South. It's one of the few raspberry varieties well suited to especially hot states like Georgia and Texas, making it a dependable choice for warm-climate gardens.
Dorman Red is a summer-bearing, trailing raspberry variety with vigorous canes that benefit from trellising to keep growth tidy and improve airflow. Its large berries should be allowed to fully ripen for maximum sweetness and are excellent for jams, cooking, or fresh eating. Plant this productive variety for generous summer harvests while adding an attractive, edible feature to your landscape.

Dorman Red Raspberry Bush Pollination
Dorman Red Raspberry Bushs are self-fertile. You will get fruit with only one plant. However, adding an additional Dorman Red Raspberry Bush will drastically increase the size of your crop.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a location with full sun, well-drained soil, and plenty of room for the trailing canes to spread. Set the plant at the same depth it was growing in its container, then add a trellis or other sturdy support. Position trellis wires approximately 5 feet above the ground, with support posts spaced 10 feet apart for each plant.
2. Watering: Water deeply after planting and keep the soil evenly moist while roots establish. Once established, provide about 1–2 inches of water weekly, especially during flowering and fruit development. Avoid consistently soggy soil.
3. Pruning: After harvest, remove canes that produced fruit, known as second-year floricanes, by cutting them at ground level. Tie healthy new canes, called first-year primocanes, to their support, as these will produce the next crop. Remove weak, damaged, or crowded growth to improve airflow.
4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced fertilizer formulated for berries in early spring as new growth begins. Follow label rates or recommendations from a soil test, and avoid overfertilizing, which can encourage excessive leafy growth at the expense of fruit production.
