Silvery blue curls in a compact form

Curly Tops Cypress stands out with twisted needle tips that reveal gleaming silver undersides. Its dense, silvery blue foliage brings year-round color and distinctive texture to garden beds and foundation plantings, with partial shade encouraging an even richer blue tone.

This compact, rounded conifer offers a tidier alternative to ‘Boulevard.’ Plant it along a driveway, use it to define a garden wall, or add it as a softly shaped evergreen accent in a moist, well-drained site.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a site with full sun to partial shade; some afternoon shade can deepen the blue foliage. Plant in moist, well-drained soil with the root flare level with the surrounding ground, then add a 3" layer of mulch three feet around the plant, pulling the mulch back several inches from the trunk.

2. Watering: Water deeply after planting and regularly during the first growing season. Keep the soil evenly moist but never soggy. Once established, water during prolonged hot or dry periods.

3. Pruning: Little pruning is needed beyond removing dead or damaged growth. Lightly shape new growth in late spring if desired, but avoid cutting back into old, bare wood because it may not regrow.

4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer formulated for evergreens in early spring if growth is weak or the soil is poor. Avoid overfertilizing, which can encourage loose growth and reduce the plant’s naturally compact form.
