Sweet, low-acid citrus with generously sized fruit

The Cocktail Grapefruit tree produces large, yellow-orange fruit with juicy flesh and a pleasantly sweet, low-acid flavor. Despite its common name, this citrus is a mandarin-pummelo hybrid rather than a true grapefruit. Its easy-to-enjoy fruit is excellent for fresh eating, juicing, and sharing.

Glossy evergreen foliage, fragrant white blossoms, and colorful winter fruit give the tree year-round appeal. Plant it in a sunny garden spot in warm climates or grow it in a large container where winters are cold, moving it to a protected location before frost.

Pollination Info

Cocktail Grapefruit Tree Pollination

Cocktail Grapefruit Trees are self-fertile. You will get fruit with only one plant. However, adding an additional Cocktail Grapefruit Tree will drastically increase the size of your crop.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Remove the stake and ties at planting, as these are only for shipping. Choose a location with full sun and well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball but no deeper, keeping the root flare slightly above ground level. In frost-prone areas, plant in a large container with drainage holes and use a well-draining citrus potting mix.

2. Watering: Water deeply after planting, then keep the soil evenly moist while roots establish. Once established, water when the top 2–3 inches of soil feel dry. Avoid constantly soggy soil, and water container-grown trees more frequently during hot weather.

3. Pruning: Prune lightly in late winter or after harvest to remove dead, damaged, crossing, or inward-growing branches. Remove suckers that develop below the graft. Avoid heavy pruning, which can reduce fruit production and expose branches to sun damage.

4. Fertilizing: Feed with a fertilizer formulated for citrus in spring and repeat as directed through the growing season. Look for a blend that includes micronutrients such as iron, magnesium, and zinc. Stop fertilizing in late summer or early fall in cooler climates to avoid tender new growth before winter.
