The ‘Cleary’ Japanese White Pine Tree is a slow growing evergreen with showy blue-green needles. With a dense, pyramidal shape that grows to around 12 feet, this tree adds height, definition, and a strong focal point to the landscape. Its branching canopy helps frame homes, soften open spaces, and create a more established look as it matures.
Use it as a specimen, along a property line, or as part of a mixed planting where its woody structure can provide lasting interest. Japanese White Pines grow best in full sun and are adaptable to many soil types, so long as they are well drained. They perform best in climates with cool, mild summers with low humidity.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Remove the stake and ties at planting, as these are only for shipping. Choose a site suited to the tree’s mature size and recommended light exposure. Dig a hole two to three times wider than the root ball and no deeper, keeping the root flare at soil level. Backfill with native soil, water thoroughly, and add mulch without piling it against the trunk.
2. Watering: Water deeply after planting and regularly during the first growing season. Aim for evenly moist, well-drained soil, allowing the surface to dry slightly between waterings. Established trees generally need supplemental water only during extended hot or dry periods.
3. Pruning: Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches as needed.
4. Fertilizing: Fertilizer is usually unnecessary at planting. If growth is weak or a soil test shows low nutrients, apply a balanced, slow-release tree fertilizer in early spring according to label directions.
