Early harvests with excellent disease resistance

Selected in North Florida for humid Southern summers, this pomegranate was among the most disease-resistant varieties in UF/IFAS trials. It is cold hardy and early ripening, making it a dependable choice where heat and humidity can challenge other fruit trees.

The fruit develops deep red skin, crimson arils and a balanced sweet-tart flavor that is well suited to fresh eating, juicing and cooking. Showy orange-red blossoms appear in late spring, adding seasonal color and attracting pollinators before the fruit develops.

Pollination Info

Christina Pomegranate Tree Pollination

Christina Pomegranate Trees are self-fertile. You will get fruit with only one plant. However, adding an additional Christina Pomegranate Tree will drastically increase the size of your crop.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Remove the stake and ties at planting, as these are only for shipping. Choose a site with full sun and well-drained soil. Dig a hole as deep as the root ball and about twice as wide, then plant with the top of the root ball level with the surrounding soil. Allow room for the tree’s mature spread.

2. Watering: Water deeply after planting and regularly during the first growing season. Once established, pomegranates tolerate short dry periods, but consistent moisture during flowering and fruit development supports a better crop. Avoid constantly soggy soil.

3. Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead, damaged or crossing growth. Thin crowded branches to improve airflow, and remove suckers if you prefer a single-trunk tree. Avoid heavy pruning, as fruit develops on older growth.

4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth begins. A second light feeding may be used in early summer if growth is weak. Avoid overfertilizing with nitrogen, which can encourage leafy growth at the expense of fruit.
